Service Year Alliance’s response to the launch of the inaugural cohort of the Service Year Option and Maryland Corps Program

Service Year Alliance released the following statement in response to the launch of the inaugural cohort of the Service Year Option and Maryland Corps Program:

“Service Year Alliance congratulates Governor Moore and Secretary Monteiro on the launch of the inaugural cohort of the Service Year Option and Maryland Corps Program - a bold and innovative approach to expanding service year opportunities in Maryland. Just ten months since Governor Moore signed an executive order creating the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation and six months since the passage of The SERVE Act, 300 Marylanders are embarking on a transformative experience.

Service years transform lives, build stronger, more united communities, and promote pathways into public service. Participants in the Service Year Option and Maryland Corps will be engaged in a powerful pathway to opportunity, developing leadership skills and earning credentials valued by employers while strengthening communities and the social fabric of Maryland.

At Service Year Alliance, we envision a future in which national service is part of growing up in America. We are thrilled to see Governor Moore’s vision come to fruition and excited to continue to support the administration’s efforts to strengthen and grow the national service ecosystem in Maryland.”
