Durrel Douglas
Regional Field Director

Growing up in South Park, an inner-city neighborhood in Houston, then later working as a correctional officer at a Texas prison, Durrel saw firsthand the awesomeness that occurs when people come together to address society's problems, and what can happen when we don't.

Prior to Service Year Alliance, Durrel worked for local, statewide, national and international organizations on issues like fighting poverty, raising the minimum wage, marriage equality, racial justice and women's equity to name a few.

Durrel recently received the Teamsters' National Black Caucus Community Trailblazer award in 2017, the League of Women Voter's Rising Star designation, i10 Media 40 under 40 award and a host of other acknowledgements that he's usually embarrassed to receive, but quick to include in bios like this one.

When he’s not traveling around the Western States, Durrel enjoys spending time with his friends, raiding his mother's refrigerator and hosting a weekly podcast.
